Thames ARG Launches!

Today, Saturday the 15th of September 2012, sees the launch of the newest UK amateur radio club, the Thames Amateur Radio Group.

TARG Launch CakeThe group is made up of a number of Essex-based amateurs keen to spread the word about amateur radio, encourage new people into the hobby, and enjoy working the world.

Mike 2E0NGY, the club’s Chairman, outlines his reasons for the group’s formation:

“We decided to form a group to explore all aspects of amateur radio and to bring the hobby right up-to-date. Our aim is to participate, demonstrate and teach all modes of amateur radio operation.

Amateur radio is a great hobby, and one of our aims is to pass on the knowledge of how to become an efficient radio operator, and how to make your signals reach the far corners of the globe. We have members who can not only transmit using voice but digital modes as well on licensed amateur frequencies.”

The first day of the club’s operation takes place today, Saturday the 15th, and TARG was partnered with local radio station Phoenix FM to get the ball rolling.

The team will be operating all day from the radio station’s Brentwood-based studios on both HF and on 2 metres. See our Twitter feed for details of what frequencies we can be found on.

We’d love to work as many amateurs as possible, both from Essex and around the world, so please try to make contact and help us to fill up the group’s shiny new logbook.
